Media Access Project Issues Statement In Support of FCC Commissioner Clyburn's Speech on Network Neutrality
Posted: Friday January 22, 2010
WASHINGTON — Hon. Mignon Clyburn, Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, today delivered a timely and important message of support for network neutrality at the Broadband and Social Justice Summit of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council, held at Howard University. Media Access Project applauds the Commissioner’s comments highlighting the need for open Internet rules to empower communities of color.
“I am pleased and encouraged by Commissioner Clyburn’s strong expression of support for open Internet protections,” said Andrew Jay Schwartzman, President and CEO of Media Access Project. “Her timely and passionate call for rules that preserve the openness of this dynamic, democratizing communications platform could not come at a better time, as the Commission begins reviewing the record in this important proceeding. Commissioner Clyburn understands that transporting old media ownership models to the Internet, and increassing gatekeepers’ control over it, would only diminish its potential for fostering free expression and promoting civil rights.”
