Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q: I am interested in cable access. Where do I find more information about this?

A: Go to the website of the Alliance for Community Media. They have resources that explain issues relating to cable access.

  2. Q: I am looking for funding or distribution of my content. Where do I find this?

  3. A. AIVF has a number of resources on this topic. Visit their website for more information.

  4. Q: The media will not cover an issue I am interested in. What do I do?

A: It can be difficult to persuade the media to cover your issue. Large companies spend many millions of dollars each year trying to do just that. On the other hand, an interested citizen can be a journalist’s best source. Write a letter to the editor, schedule a meeting with the station manager, and/or contact competing broadcast outlets. Try to schedule a meeting with the editorial board or look at the newspaper to identify appropriate reporters and contact them. You can also enlist political support or hold a protest. For example, ask to speak to a local civic organization such as the Rotary Club or PTA, to educate them about your issues.
