Media Access Project Announces Departure of Parul Desai
Desai Joins Consumers Union as Policy Counsel
WASHINGTON — With a mixture of pride and regret, Media Access Project (MAP) today announced the departure of its Vice President, Parul P. Desai, to join Consumers Union as Policy Counsel.
Tyrone Brown, MAP President, said:
“Over her five years of public service at MAP, Parul has been tireless advocate for the public interest in wireless, broadband, low power FM radio, digital radio, and countless other communications and technology policy issues. In addition to her successes in legal advocacy, her dedication to building relationships with nationwide social service and civil rights organizations has had a direct, positive impact on the diversity of participation in media policymaking.
“Parul’s leadership has also been recognized by her recent election to the board of the Federal Communications Bar Association.”
Andrew Jay Schwartzman, MAP Senior Vice President and Policy Director, said:
“Parul will be sorely missed here, but the pain is mitigated by the knowledge that she has chosen to remain a member of the public interest community. We look forward to working with her in the years to come as she continues her advocacy on behalf of the public.”
“MAP is especially proud of the fact that Parul joins a long list of MAP alumni who have risen to leadership in public interest advocacy positions in media and telecommunications policy. These include: Gigi Sohn (Public Knowledge), Harold Feld (Public Knowledge), Cheryl Leanza (United Church of Christ), Jen Howard (Federal Communications Commission), Jessica Gonzalez (National Hispanic Media Coalition), Corielle Wright (Free Press), Brooke Rae-Hunter (Public Knowledge), and Benjamin Lennett (New America Foundation).”
